Brad and Mary Jane Bryan contacted Tyler Shurtz, a veteran 3Day Kitchen & Bath contractor in Provo, Utah, when Mary Jane’s brother mentioned that 3Day Kitchen & Bath would be the best option for their remodeling project.
The problem was, they lived in Washington DC, and the property was in Utah. Or was it a problem?
On more than one occasion, Tyler Shurtz has consulted with, designed, and completed a kitchen remodel for clients living out of state. With the help of video calls, top-quality computer renderings, and (of course) email, he has successfully brought client’s dreams to life.
Before
The Bryan’s lived in DC, but planned to eventually retire in Utah. They purchased a home in Provo, and looked forward to a renovation that would make it feel like “home.”
They knew the kitchen needed more space and several updates; and when Mary Jane’s brother referred them to 3Day, they decided to get started!
When they discussed their plans with Tyler, he got to work designing a kitchen that incorporated everything they needed.

The Wish List
- Open the dining room to the kitchen space
- Generous cabinet space
- New flooring
- Quality workmanship
- Luxury updates
The Project
The Bryan’s valued quality and luxury for their retirement home. Because Brad is a building contractor himself, he knew the importance of quality workmanship and materials. It was important for them to take ample time to discuss the design renderings and to select products carefully.
The Plan

The Renderings

Tyler explains:
I have learned to ‘take as long as it takes’ when working with clients for their remodel. I am careful to ‘wait until I know they are comfortable’ before we begin.
A few very practical reasons for this are
- It assures everyone that each need is understood and considered, which prevents issues from popping up later on.
- It also allows clients time to build trust with the contractor and to look forward to a beautiful transformation!
After
The project was scheduled for seven days, and the crew came in on time. When Brad and Mary Jane flew to Provo and walked into their new kitchen, they were amazed! The change was so transformative that it felt like home! Brad was impressed with the workmanship: “It is so well-done, and happened so quickly!”

A design hallmark in this kitchen is the lighted upper cabinets. A bank of boxes above wall cabinetry, replaces the outdated “soffit” solution and the open shelf style that gathers dust.
Other improvements include refinished hardwood floors, efficiency stainless appliances (range, wall oven, microwave, and refrigerator), and the beautifully tiled backsplash that makes a modern design statement.
The biggest improvement of all, is the open space that expands the dining area and kitchen with convenience and style.
What are your plans for retirement? It’s reassuring to know that 3Day expert contractors will work with you – even if you live at a distance from the home you plan to renovate.
