I recently had the chance to talk with Marisa, a client in Omaha, Nebraska. She and her husband contracted with 3Day Kitchen and Bath to completely gut their kitchen and transform it with new everything!
The older home they moved into a few years before had a nice roomy kitchen, but the cabinets were worn, the space was dark, and the outdated soffits wasted so much space. This family of six just needed to begin with a complete demolition.
Where Do We Start?
They decided the Do-It-Yourself option would not work for them: it would be a lot of work, and would take a really long time. The decision to hire a building contractor also seemed prohibitive, once they shopped around and realized the time it would take from start to finish. With four kids and busy schedules, having the kitchen out of commission weeks-on-end would be too much stress to live with.
Did you know the construction industry’s average timeline for a kitchen remodel in the United States is 3 months?
So, what would YOU do if you were in this situation? Yep. Exactly. They did a search on GOOGLE and discovered Sonja Skadberg’s company, 3Day Kitchen and Bath right in their hometown!
Marisa told me that she was so relieved to learn that Sonja understood their needs and would manage the entire project – even assist with design choices. When Sonja described her business model, Marisa said she just kept thinking:
“That’s soooo smart! Why aren’t more companies doing this? It’s a win-win for everyone – the client, the contractor, and the crew!”
Wish List
The benefit that comes with a complete demo, is you get to start over brand new. Marisa felt a little like a HGTV star, meeting with Sonja to select tile, flooring, and cabinetry. There were a few things that they just had to have:
- a roll-out cabinet for garbage
- a pantry
- ceiling-height upper cabinets
- tile backsplash
- quality new countertops
The things they were happy to see go:
- those nasty soffits
- dark oak cabinets
- the trash can sitting exposed at the end of the counter
- the dark laminate countertops
The Project
3Day Kitchen and Bath put the family up in a hotel nearby – conveniently near work and school. So, on Monday – start day of the project – the family took one last look at their kitchen. Marisa and her husband were amazed to know that in only a few days they would be back home enjoying the brand-new space.
“It was exciting! Like a vacation, really,” Marisa said. The kids got to swim every day and I was able to cook in the mini-kitchen just like we would have at home.”
She confessed to peeking in at the project throughout the week; watching it take shape, talking with the workmen. Knowing it would be finished so soon was part of the fun, she explained.
DIY vs. 3Day Kitchen & Bath
Now that the project is complete, Marisa told me about her reflections on the DIY option versus working with 3Day Kitchen and Bath. She mentioned an Instagram account she had been following for quite some time.
The influencer was documenting her DIY kitchen remodel story – sharing images and videos of the reno taking shape. Marisa said it was fun watching the progress, but it sure was taking a long time…
She knew from the beginning of the project with 3Day Kitchen and Bath, they would have their new kitchen in just a week! Then she was really impressed when the Instagram account owner published the cost-break-down for their DIY renovation.
“The final cost for their new kitchen turned out to be only a tiny bit less than what we spent with 3Day Kitchen and Bath! And our project began and ended in only one week!”
